Jo Ann Vandenhazel

Jo Ann K. Vandenhazel-Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away after her valiant battle with Multiple Sclerosis on March 16, 2014.

Jo Ann was born December 9, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James and Ann King. On February 19, 1960, Jo Ann married the love of her life of 54 years Bernard Vandenhazel. At a young age, Jo Ann had to grow up quickly as she helped her mother care for her brother Tom.  She attended the University of Utah with a major in history and minor in communication. She had a great interest in studying the Civil War.

Jo Ann had two daughters Kimberly and Lara. She was a loving and supportive mother to her girls. Jo Ann served in the LDS primary presidency. She captured the hearts of many children with her storytelling. She always made sure every activity was unique and special. Jo Ann was a very talented and gifted woman. She wrote, directed, performed and produced many of the ward road shows and other theatrical plays.  Jo Ann had a good head for business. She and her husband founded Sparta United Soccer Club, the oldest, competitive youth soccer club in the State of Utah. Jo Ann spent countless hours helping build this 33 year old dynasty.

Jo Ann developed and organized the first competitive youth soccer tournament in the state. Jo Ann touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Bernard, daughters Kimberly Henry (Brian), Lara Kelley (Dustin), 3 grandchildren Tristan (Katie), Rhyder and Meghan, one great-grandchild Aiden and her brother Thomas King (Sande). She is preceded in death by her mother. We would like to thank Diane, Janet and Whitney with Brighton Home Health & Hospice for the loving care you gave to Jo Ann.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the LDS Greenfield church building, 6600 Greenfield Way, Salt Lake City. Visitations will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy, and also on Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow services at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
