Sparta player Darian Jenkins will be playing with the U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team at the upcoming CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship, to be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala in early May.  Head Coach Albertin Montoya named Jenkins to the 20-player squad after a 10-day training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California, that ended with a 0-0 draw against the China U-20 Women’s National Team.  

Jenkins and her teammates will be battling for one of CONCACAF’s three berths to the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held from Sept. 22-Oct. 13 in Azerbaijan. In preliminary pool play, they will play Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, and Mexico.  

 Jenkins is a long time player for the Sparta U-17  Premier team, coached by Head Coach Dennis Burrows and Assistant Coach Ab Rees.  Upon graduation from Riverton High School in 2013, she will play for UCLA.

The Sparta ’01 Premier Girls team, coached by Todd Miller and Bruce Cuppett, just returned from Phoenix where they claimed the championship of the Blackhawks Max Shacknai Invitational. 

 Our U14 Boys are currently ranked #1 in the Nation by Top Drawer Soccer and our U16 Boys are ranked #10 in Nation.

 U17 Girls win Presidents Day Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona in dominating style scoring 19 goals and conceding only 5. While our U16 Gilrs take second losing in a heartbreaker.

6 Sparta Teams participated in tournaments throughout San Diego over the Thanksgiving Weekend, including Nomads, Surf and the November Nights Showcase.  All teams showed well competing against some of the top teams in the Region. Of these teams 1 team advanced to the Quarterfinal and another team advanced to the final.  A great showing in some extremely tough tournaments. 

10 Sparta teams participated in Las Vegas over the weekend.  5 of them participated in the Thanksgiving Classic Tournament and the other 5 participated in Western Collegiate Development Association (WCDA) league games.  Overall it was a big success for the club.  Of the 5 WCDA teams, all came away without a losing record and combined finished their games with an overall record of 11 wins and 6 losses.  On the tournament side we had 2 teams reach the semifinals and 1 of those teams reach the final.

We would like to congratulate our 5 Finalists in Boys State Cup this year.  U14 Justus Koelliker, U15 Patrick Rennie, U16 Justus Koelliker, U17 Marco deRuiter and U18 Patrick Rennie.  2 of 8 teams in finals win State Cup.  U14 Justus Koelliker and U16 Justus Koelliker.
