Justus Koelliker Named Liberty Mutual
Responsible Coach of the Year for Utah!
Youth Sports Coaches Celebrated for their Responsible Approach to Mentoring Young Athletes
As an A-Licensed Coach, Justus Koelliker coaches Sparta 96 Blue Boys and Sparta 98 Blue Boys for the Sparta United Soccer Club. He is also Director of the Sparta Boys U10 Academy. Koelliker started coaching at age 16 as an assistant coach. He has coached both recreational and competitve youth teams. His love for soccer began as a 5-year old player in Indiana and continued in Texas and Utah. He played at Alta High School and three years for the University of Utah's Men's Club Team. Koelliker's Coaching Philosophy is to create a good environment where young players are taught correctly and are being challenged - while having a blast playing soccer. He is honored to receive this award and says, "I feel that if we teach the kids correctly from a young age in a fun and challenging environment, they may just surprise us with what they are capable of accomplishing." chosen to participate in this special Region IV event. (The only two Utah girls in the
93 age-group) Congratulations Girls, the Sparta organization is very proud of your

James Rogers of Sparta 93 Premier Receives All-Star Honors from US Youth Soccer's ODP Boys Interregional
James Rogers, a member of Utah Youth Soccer's '93 ODP Team, was chosen to the US Youth Soccer adidas '93 All-Star Team at the recently completed US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Interregional at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex from November 25-27, 2007. The 18-man rosters for the '92, '93 and '94 adidas All-Star teams were selected for their outstanding performance during the annual interregional event. Rogers' most recent accolades include being selected to the U-15 US National Team, in which he scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory at the Nike Friendlies on December 6, 2007.
Sparta U-14 Girls – Harvest Cup Black Division (Top Flight) Finalist
The Sparta ’94 Girls had a fantastic showing at the Harvest Cup in Irvine, California, reaching the finals after a weekend of quality soccer. Group play included a 2-1 victory against Snohomish United Fury from Washington, a 1-0 win against host team Irvine Strikers, and another 1-0 win against Tustin Premier Black. Sparta then won the Semi-Final in a penalty kick shootout against Glendora FC of Southern California. They were matched up in the Finals against one of the very best in the region, CRSC Infinity, who are also rank very high nationally. Even though the final result was a 4-0 loss, the team really pulled together this weekend and played some great soccer. Our coaches and parents are very proud of this group for having a very successful and fun tournament! Good job girls!
James Rogers (U-15 B Sparta Premier)James participated in the ODP Thanksgiving event in Florida as a member of the Region IV 93 ODP team. Reports are that he had a great camp and experience in Orlando. Not surprisingly James has been selected to the US 15 Boys National Team pool and will be returning to Florida Dec. 3rd - Dec. 9th for US BNT camp -- this is a tremendous honor! Congratulations James on this well deserved achievement!!! The team and club share in the excitement of your recognition!!! Good luck again in Florida!!!
Congratulations to the Sparta U18 girls, who recently returned as finalists from the 2007 Las Vegas Turkey Shoot. This years Women’s U18 Gold bracket featured teams from California, Colorado, Nevada and Utah.

Sparta Teams Win Big in 2007
Las Vegas Mayor's Cup
The City of Las Vegas Mayor's cup International Tournament was played last weekend, October 27-28. Championship honors were awarded to three Sparta teams. In the U16 Girls Gold Division Sparta 92 Premier received top honors after beating Cisco Zoom 92, Sacramento Pumas, Juventus Destiny, and Impact Black. They scored an impressive 13 goals and did not allow any goals. Sparta 93 Premier won the U15 Girls Gold Division beating Neusport Gold, So Valley United Black, Colorado Rush, and Pride Copa 93. As a scoring machine this team netted 17 goals and gave up only 1 goal. The U13 Girls Gold Division was won by Sparta 95 Premier after tieing Neusport 95 Gold and beating Reno Netrippers, Vegas Vengeance and Neusport 95 Green. Their tough defense refused to allow any goals while their offense put away 9 goals. Congratulations to the players and coaches for impressive tournament wins.
